Step 1 - Recreating the Pad

Key Objectives

Create the two pad parts which are one of the main components of “Belfast.”Practise recording in MIDI notes for a more “human” feel.learn how to loop a sample in a sampler to give much greater flexibility in how the sample is used.Look at how the two pads work together to make a simple two note chord

  • Create the two pad parts which are one of the main components of “Belfast.”
  • Practise recording in MIDI notes for a more “human” feel.
  • learn how to loop a sample in a sampler to give much greater flexibility in how the sample is used.
  • Look at how the two pads work together to make a simple two note chord

Step-by-Step Breakdown

Load the First Pad Sound: Use either the Wavestation plugin/sample (provided) or the included sample that you’ve placed in your project.Record MIDI: Play the notes live, then adjust the midi as needed. Load the Second Pad Sound: Use either the Wavestation plugin/sample (provided) or the included sample that you’ve placed in your project.Record MIDI: Play the notes live, then adjust the midi as needed. Fix the sample by looping it: Click "loop" and reduce the loop amount from 100% down to around 90% and increase the fade amount to around 15%

Action Step

Check your version against the original and try to get it close (without getting too hung up on it)

Step 2 - Recreating the Synth Sound

Key Objectives

  • Craft a 101-style portamento lead using TAL NoiseMaker.
  • Set up autopan and use a reverb send to create a spatial, moving effect.

Step-by-Step Breakdown

  1. Insert TAL NoiseMaker: Create a new MIDI track, load TAL NoiseMaker.
  2. Enter the MIDI: Draw in the notes on the 16th note so that there's four different notes between 1 and 1.2 - G3, C4, A3, B3 (I do this an octave lower at first but then correct my mistake)
  3. Design the Sound: Set oscillator waveform to a saw wave and tune to +24, basic envelope settings (attack, decay and release on zero and sustain on full) and enable portamento (pitch glide) reminiscent of a Roland SH-101.
  4. Autopan & Reverb: Insert an autopan on the channel or use a modulation device, and route the track to a reverb send for subtle space.
